    History: Wiki be here.

    Personality:

Silas is a bit of an enigma and for years, there was a deliberate effort he made in staying an enigma. He controlled the narrative, having no choice but to pull strings from his desiccated state. Thanks to blood dripping down, he was able to get inside the heads of those who inhabited and/or visited the island he was imprisoned on. Cults were formed around him (which also got everything wrong) and he even found a devoted follower in Atticus Shane, a man who'd lost his wife and son.

In truth, this leads to one of his main traits - how manipulative he is to achieve his own ends. I'm stating right here that his motivation from the beginning has been convoluted, sketchy, and confusing at best. Usually with the Vampire Diaries, the story is enhanced with word-of-mouth assumptions regarding what something is/does (the moonstone, the sun and the moon curse) but, Silas' plan was always a strange one - to get rid of the other side, take the cure and kill himself to reunite with his beloved Amara (whom he believed perished.) Because of this, it's shown throughout season 4 just how manipulative he is. He plays on Bonnie's desire to bring Jeremy back from the dead, he plays on Shane's need to see his wife and children (and outright lies to him about them being able to come back.) But, even after his true self emerges, he doesn't hesitate to put himself first.

His desires and his needs come first, everyone else be damned. He doesn't care about collateral damage. He doesn't care about terrorizing anyone and everyone in his path. He is ruthless, sadistic and enjoys toying with people. He lies in the blink of an eye.

Something happens when a person with as huge an ego as Silas' lives for 2000+ years (dessicated at the bottom of a well or not), that ego grows. Once hailed as one of the most powerful warlocks (and travelers as they were called), once he became immortal, that ego never subsided. He's a cocky son of a bitch. He loves himself. He thinks he's fabulous. His needs matter. And if his needs coincide with yours then he won't have to kill you. He also believes he's the most powerful and smartest person in the room. When he could read minds, create illusions and form a blood bond with someone - in a way, he was. He was unstoppable. And he never hesitated to invade someone's privacy or get what he wanted from them. He always thought ten steps ahead. If he comes across as condescending, he really doesn't care. In fact, he tells Sheriff Forbes that he thinks he's above everyone else. He's evolved past vampires of today. When he was a vampire, he never drank from the vein. He simply made the nearest victim cut their wrist open and bleed into a cup. He can be a bit of a snob. Everyone else be damned. You are peons.

He's the kind of egomaniac that will wax philosophic about his life to complete strangers. The thing is, he's also amused with the human race. He makes an offhanded comment about gas prices being a big concern and while it's not that telling, it's still amusing he finds thinks like that amusing.

Silas has two sides to his humor. He is a hilarious character, whether it be because of his sarcastic honeybadger don't give a shit attitude, the one-liners, or Paul Wesley's pure joy and chewing up any and all nearby scenery. One side is sort of like the cool dad trying to be funny. He makes a horrible knock-knock joke about killing the mayor and makes himself laugh in the process. But, he also has a sick sense of humor because he takes pleasure in other people's pain. Much like Quetsiyah, poetic justice can be just as satisfying. The idea that Stefan is dying, over and over in the quarry tickles him pink.

When he wants to, he has a carefree attitude and a light walk. The day he believes he can find the anchor and finally pass on amuses him to no end. He's all smiles. He makes quips, cracks jokes. He's also extremely bossy when he wants to be. It's his way or the highway.

Silas can be very vindictive. If you try and dupe him, hide from him or double cross him he won't hesitate to get back at you. He will threaten and then kill your family and friends. He has quite the sadistic side. He stabs Klaus with a white oak stake he acquires from Rebekah, breaks it off inside his body and then terrorizes him with that pain while also taunting him in Caroline's form. He hypnotizes Caroline Forbes into cutting off her fingers in the Grill. When things don't go his way with Amara and Quetsiyah he takes Bonnie's resurrection off the table and cites Damon failing at keeping his promise as why he does it. And he takes pleasure in it. He enjoys liquifying a stranger's organs at the bus stop.

He is also ruthless. When Katherine goes missing, he sends the entire town after her and people from neighboring towns. He compels them all to find her. He will stop at nothing while going to any lengths to get what he wants whatever that may be. He is determined. He spends the entire summer drinking blood and gaining power.

Along with being completely and utterly self-involved, he can be extremely stubborn. When given the choice to take the cure and die - but be separated from Amara forever - he chooses a second fate, refusing to bend to Questiyah's will. He doesn't take no for an answer. He waited for 2000+ years to enact his insane plan. What's another two days?

Silas is incredibly immature. He and Quetsiyah wrestle through an unhealthy relationship. He's guided by his id and id alone. He doesn't think of others, not their comfort, not their mood. He'll never ask if you're okay and if he does he certainly doesn't care. He pulls the strings he wants to pull. Your lives are his playthings. Especially if he loses his power - then all he can do is stir the pot and watch the fireworks. He has a temper when he doesn't get what he believes he deserves (which, is anything he wants, seeing a pattern?) His loyalties also change on a dime. It's not anything they've done. He's simply done. Well, that was fun, onto the next. He's also impulsive. If he feels like taking his manpain out on a complete stranger because he's found love? He will. Very nonchalantly and with a smile.

His true love throughout all of time is Amara, handmaiden to his ex fiancee whom he stood up at the altar, Quetsiyah. From day one, that is the one piece of true information he never wavers from. Everything has been leading up to him reuniting with his long lost love. It's just a matter of who that love ends up being. Crossed wires make everyone think Quetsiyah is who he wants to reunite with. Even after Amara drains him to take the cure herself, he doesn't blame her or hate her. He acquiesces, bringing the knife to her throat. All he wants is to be happy with her wherever that is. Which also makes her his weakness.

At his heart, Silas is a romantic. He spent the last few thousand years waiting to be reunited with his soul mate. He says it himself. He loves love. When he discusses love, he waxes philosophically, almost wistfully. He even says a woman never forgets her first love, no matter how badly it ended. If he had the time to read or cared, he'd love the Greek poets. He'd probably love jazz and sappy-ass love songs. Amara is his reason for living and breathing.

Interestingly enough, Silas has never had friends. He pretty much treats everyone the same save for Amara: as a means to an end. He doesn't discriminate gender-wise, though. If you're an ally, he's fickle enough that you won't always be an ally or he'll just piss you off because you feel like it and won't that suck (except he really won't care).

It'll be interesting to see once that's taken away as a possibility how he'll act - especially without powers. When it comes to debt and so-called crimes, he'll roll his eyes. He's never held himself accountable for anything. He barely holds himself accountable for cheating on Quetsiyah. When he talks to the young couple at the bus stop he speaks very matter-of-factly with only a slight air of 'I done fucked up.' It might take him time to do whatever "job" he's assigned if he ever is interested enough. Once he finds out he can, he'll go after his powers because if he's going to live, he wants them back. All of them. Maybe even his immortality if that's possible. (Not saying it is, just moving through his thought process.) If you can't be with the one you love, and can't die to be with them, then why not be the best and brightest in the room? Don't mess. He won't see debt as something he deserves - though he'll see how he could be held accountable for it, he won't give a rat's ass.

He won't, however, be grateful when? Cecilia heals him. Because, it's what he's wanted all along. Getting him to a point where he doesn't just kill himself will be interesting. Once he realizes he's been further cut off from Amara - cut off, cut off, he might not be so quick to jump to his suicidal tendencies.

    Powers/Abilities:

As a witch (and no longer an invulnerable immortal), Silas has access to certain powers that we see in the TVD universe. It is said he was one of the most powerful in his time, as he was a traveler. He's shown being very adept at using magic even after not having been a witch for years. I'll touch on all witch-related abilities but note the ones we saw in canon...

Channeling → He can draw power from celestial events, other witch's magic, his ancestral line, and talismans/cursed/enchanted objects.
Elemental Control → He can control fire, water, air, and even the weather. He can knock out lights and cause storms.
Pain Infliction → He can liquify organs, burst blood vessels in the brain or even knock someone unconscious.
Spell Casting → He can both cast spells and work at blocking them from locator spells to resurrecting spells. At one time he was recruited to bring Bonnie back to the living. Like Quetsiyah it's implied he could be able to create an immortal being if he so chooses.
Telekinesis → He can fling objects with his mind without even lifting a finger.
Spell Creation → Witches can write spells.

Dear Mun aka really, vampire barbie, Katherine Pierce and Elijah take the bait? At least Stefan is there to make hollow threats.

    Prose Sample:

In the end it had to be Stefan.

For thousands of years, in life, motivation boiled down to love or revenge. Silas fully believed his motivation had been love all along. He made no secret of that fact. He had much in common with Stefan - the soapy love triangle, substance abuse issues he didn't particularly care about because he did what he wanted to when he wanted to do it - and when he was calcified at the bottom of a well, being a beggar meant he couldn't have been a chooser. Coupling that with Stefan being able to live the last hundred years and Silas being stuck - well, revenge had to be something he himself partook in. It was Shakespearean and yeah, Shakespeare had it right. Love, revenge, jealousy. Mankind was, at its core, its baser instincts.

A funny thing happened when he got into the heads of hundreds of people - pop culture, great literary works - even trashy reality TV (he really needed to get up to New Jersey to slaughter some vapid housewives -or quite possibly treat them to dinner complete with life's lessons) became things he had knowledge of.

But, Stefan would get all that, probably always had. Brother stole his girl. Bummer. Maybe Stefan would get the last laugh.

    He did with Silas.

The bitch about dying was that it didn't happen all at once. Internal organs shut down slowly. He was bleeding out and all he could do was watch as Amara took the dagger from him and ended her own life. Damon of course tried to intervene. Maybe Silas had succeeded after all. At least Amara was free? He could die in peace - which, like he'd told everyone ever - had always been what he was after. He never once lied about that. He'd take the cure, become mortal. Sure, he'd lied about the several steps it would take to do it. He'd ended several lives, manipulated countless others and terrorized a young witch to the point of her desperate, desperate death.

But, that had been about one thing - one thing everything boiled down to in life. Love.

Love. And hate. Emotion in their purest forms. Stefan had a right to hate him. It was poetic that Stefan got to end his long, long, long life. Funny thing was, Silas didn't hate anyone. Sure, Quetsiyah was a bitch. She pissed him off. But, he'd cheated on her and suffered the consequences. Silas was all about love. Even with his last dying breath.

If only his eyes hadn't set on his ancient bleeding heart ex, when they'd opened again. Oh, hell no.

"And here I thought, I'd never end up in hell."

Whether or not the universe didn't always win, Silas spends the rest of eternity knowing in his heart of hearts that Amara is and always will be his soul mate. What's a semi-fatal stabbing between star-crossed lovers?
